To Whom It May Concern:I received from All Over The States Movers in California an online quote from advanced moving to relocate my belongings from CA to CO. After providing the requested of my original list I was given a quote of $1,200.00 and gave them a $565 deposit from our credit card through phone conversation.
Pick up was scheduled for 11-02-01. The Truck Driver Gabriel made me sign a contract-which is a violation of a county ordinance and stated clearly on their own contract!! Because he said, “if you do not signed I will take all the stuff from my truck and leave”, so I signed with a new charges of $3,242.00.
He charged me 5% for fuel, which this information was not provided from their representative on the phone Dana Shaw, the total was $147.00.
He also charged me to pack and wrap my stuff totally $142.00, which I did myself. I wrapped, packed, and covered my things, the only thing that needed to be wrapped was the TV and the large sofa. They use my plastic wrap, they used my cutting knife, and my possessions were ready to go, so there are no details of the charges.
I refused to signed the new estimate and then they were ready to take all the stuff from the truck, Gabriel show me another type of contract under the company’s name “First Choice Moving & Storage” I asked what company was and he said to me, “do not worry “all over the states Movers” they just are a brokers and we are the company do the moving business” I did not understand his statement and this information was not provided to me in my first contact with Dana Shaw.
The next day I called Dana Shaw and she agreed with me that I was overcharged, I was honest to her and let her know that I added to my original list two small dressers and 7 more medium boxes, she promised to get back to me as soon as possible with a correction on my charges. After two days of "no one is in the office to help you" I finally got Dana and she refused to talk to me and transfer me with the dispatchers, the lady which I forgot her name she said there is nothing she can do because I signed the new estimated and the papers are legally with my signature. It turns out that they underestimated the amount of space my things would use on their truck and so they were unable to help me. The cubits charge space in the truck was never explained to me.
The dispatchers also said that initially I have 35 items on my list, and I added two more dressers, 7 medium boxes which a total of 44 items, but she claimed that I had 70 + items, which is not true. The truck driver was putting stickers to my bicycle and the wheels make two items. My computer desk I dissemble in five parts and Gabriel put one stickers to each part of the computers desk, which was not one item for them was five items, my TV stands was dissemble in four parts so Gabriel added four more items instead writing only one, my dresser instead of being one piece was four pieces, they count each draw.
The dispatcher’s words were "it's not fair for us to lose money". I didn't understand why I had to pay for their inability to do their job correctly! They were over 200% off on the price and the needed space! The truck driver Gabriel could not communicate very well with his broken English and he really confused me with his arguments saying the office made a mistake not him, because he represent somebody else. The dispatcher was so rude and told me that since we did not have a binding estimate, he could charge me whatever he wanted.
Gabriel asked to pay $1,400 at the time of pick up or the price would be going up again! I pay him $1,000, because November 2, 2007, was my last day in my apartment, I was ready to leave California the same day to Colorado, I DID NOT HAVE A CHOICE BUT TO SIGN THE CONTRACT AND FOLLOW THE DRIVERS ADVICE TO CALL THE OFFICE AND THEY WOULD DEAL WITH MY NEW BILL.
DANA SHAW who was my initial contact refused to speak with me, and stated she has nothing to do with the new bill. I still owe this company the total of $1,677.- they have my stuff in storage and I am afraid not to pay the remaining balance because I am not working yet in Colorado.
We feel violated and robbed and do not want this to happen to anyone else. We trusted them with all of our personal possessions and then we were forced to pay an absurd fee to regain them. We were put in an uncompromising position. This is apparently a practice that All Over the States Moving along with the company First Choice Moving and Storage is used to. This company and its employees were very unprofessional (the dispatchers), nasty (truck driver Gabriel) and liars (Dana Shaw). They bullied us when we were in a vulnerable position.
