In 2006 I signed up for an almost full-body package at ALC after getting a "coupon" for a 20% discount and "winning" $250 off. I paid all $6,000 to Care Credit in under a year. I went for almost 2 years, a total of 11 sessions, 4 of them what are called double passes, where they do everything twice. I would be there from 2 1/2 to 5 hours a session, every 8 or so weeks. On my 4th, 5th, and 6th sessions I was burned, getting at least one blister each time; one on my inner thigh, one on the back of my thigh, and one on my genitals. Although a doctor is supposed to be on the premises overseeing everything, I never so much as saw one there, much less met one throughout the entire 15 or so times I'd been to the center. I called August 9 and Sarah who answered the phone didn't even know the names of the doctors who oversee the Grand Blanc clinic. After my 7th session I was not seeing much in the way of results and I had spoken to Joanne and Eva at Headquarters about my displeasure and I was told that someone was supposed to have called me after my 3rd session to see how it was going and if I wasn't having results, they would start doing double passes for my 4th, 5th, and 6th treatments. I was asked by Eva to do 3 more sessions (which would be my 8th, 9th, and 10th) at double-passes and then reevaluate. I agreed. And then did FOUR double pass appointments over the next 8 months.
I went in for my 12th session 3/10/08 and after I got undressed and on the table I was told the laser wasn't going to be available for another half an hour. So I asked to speak to Tara Schroeder, the manager, (again) and I complained (again) that I was STILL not having decent results. So she canceled my appointment and began what they call the nonresponder protocol. I had to let my hair grow for two weeks then come back in for pictures. I did so. She even commented on how much hair I had coming in. After she figured out how to work the camera (She had to leave the room to ask someone else how to adjust the settings so the flash didn't keep whiting out my skin and hair) she took pictures and I waited to hear back.
I had to call numerous times to talk to someone. I've talked to Joanne and Eva in "customer service" (I use that term loosely) NUMEROUS times. I was then told by Joanne that the report came back that they could not see any hair, but they wanted me to continue the rest of my guarantee period -another year of double passes. I called Tara and told her if they aren't seeing hair, it's because of the pictures she took, and I then asked if she even bothered verbally stating that she saw that I still have a vast majority of my hair regrowing. She said she did inform them and she also stated it was contradictory for them to say they didn't see hair, but then insist on continuing treatments; and she also said it was out of her hands after starting the nonresponder protocol.
I have called numerous times since then and left many messages. I did not start documenting calls until the end of March of this year although I had contacted multiple times prior.

I also sent Jacqueline Deluca an email, and of course nobody has contacted me back. I have now sent a certified letter to CEO Gary Graves in Farmington Hills, and am awaiting a response.
I tell everyone who is considering hair removal what a scam ALC is. I'm glad the word is finally getting out there. I've prevented three people from going to ALC as they had originally planned, and I will be hiring one of the lawyers I've spoken with if I do not hear back from Gary Graves. Not only do I want my $6,000 back as I originally desired, they will be paying my lawyer fees.
Update: I received an email from Eva within days of submitting this complaint. On top of claiming she supposedly thought this issue was resolved back in April (why would I have left numerous growingly irate voicemails since, I wonder) she is also claiming there is no record of me ever having been burned (despite the fact they have photos) and that I was "determined to be a nonresponder" because apparently she feels I have the capability to force my body to not respond to laser hair removal as it should.
My response to her included what would be the FOURTH request for copies of these pictures they claim have no hair in them. I've received no response, and of course, no pictures.
I also got a response from the BBB with regards to the complaint I filed. Someone named "Ashley Willis" responded and claims I had 10 treatments, 3 of them double passes. I have had 11 and 4. She also claims I signed up for the hair removal treatments with the knowledge that they DON'T GUARANTEE HAIRLESSNESS. Absolutely absurd. I am livid.
I have now also contacted an investigative reporter who has already done a piece on American Laser Centers ripping people off. I have contacted two lawyers who are gathering information for class action lawsuits. I have filed a complaint with the Attorney General, and I have filed a complaint with the Michigan State Medical Society.
I've been in touch with multiple victims of ALC's scams; some of whom have gotten what was rightfully theirs back, and others who are still fighting. I am contacting as many people as I can, and filing as many complaints as I can.
UPDATES:
9/25/08 I've hired a lawyer.
10/22/08 They countered my attorney's letter with a $500 settlement offer. Hah! How insulting. No. We're going to court.
12/19/08 They have been served with legal papers. They have 20 days to respond.
1/22/09 We have a trial date set in March, with a jury.
1/23/09 ALC has made a $6000 settlement offer. This is my entire refund, however I am still in the hole with lawyer fees of $965. I was tempted to tell them no and keep our court date just to rub it in that they lost this one, and force them to pay my legal fees.
They've thought I was bluffing this entire three years. I've more than proved I haven't bluffed once.
I have my money back and I'm still spreading warnings about this worthless joke of a company.
I win.
