Air Canada - trouble for the disabled!

I recently injured my knee in a ski accident and had to cancel an Air Canada flight booked through Expedia - I tried to use the credit now that I am able to travel again, but I am waearing a full leg brace (zimmer splint) and so Air Canaa told me I would have to pay for 2 seats (they insisted this was all they could do, that due to Transport Canada safety rules they could not seat me in a window seat, they also suggested I try to getthe second seat paid for 'by insurance') - I argued with them and they agreed to review a medical form from my doctor and assured me that they would make decision quickly once they received the form. I provided them with the docotr's fax number, and the doctor completed and faxed the form on Jan 16. When I did not hear from Air Canada 24 hours later, I booked a flight with WestJet without any difficulties (they are providing me with a window seat and will try to keep the seat next to me free). I waited to see what would happen with Air Canada.

I received a phone message from Air Canada Jan 22 stating that they had not received the medical form yet. I phoned the doctor's office, confirmed that they HAD faxed the form, and they confirmed the fax number. I phoned Air Canada medical desk AGAIN, confirmed that the Doctor DID fax the requested form on Jan 16. Air Canada suggested I phone my doctor and fax it again (no offer to look and see if perhaps the form was actually received and lost somewhere at Air Canada or to call the doctor's office themselves). I asked AC to cancel my reservation.

Imagine the difficulty I would be in if I did not have the WestJet option! I need to travel for work and Air Canada is very inflexible - if Air Canada were my only choice, I would be unable to travel, which is a requirment of my job (and I am cleared to travel by my doctor).
