For five years my husband and I have been paying our "bad" mortgage on time. Always paying by phone at the end of the month. Despite the fact that we have not only been through a huge California wild fire but are also involved in an eminent domain battle with LADWP (which essentially means we cannot sell our house without a huge disclosure) we continue to pay. We have struggled to pay because of lack of work etc. but have managed by the skin of our teeth to do so every month. This month, as usual I payed the mortgage on the 29th using the phone system (because of the fees involved in having a real person take the info). I got a confirmation number and assumed all was fine. Yesterday, when I went to the bank, I realized that the funds had not been deducted. I called immediately to find out what happened and was told first, that funds weren't available. When I protested, I was told that there was an error in the account number and a report of NO PAYMENT had been sent to the credit bureau. After countless, pointless discussions with representatives who are programmed to say no to every request, I am absolutely beside myself. I was chastised for not using a representative to pay rather than the automated system. At one point, there was a veiled inference that I had entered a wrong number on purpose! What can I do. In these hard times, I cannot afford to have a late report for something that is clearly not true. Given that I have paid that mortgage with the same account, by telephone every month, couldn't someone, anyone have checked. I am beside myself. What is the point of killing yourself to meet their terms only to have it all go down the drain with one extra 0.
