I am on the Phone with att, it's been an hour

I called to cancel my service in January, but was convinced by James in the customer service dept. to switch to a $20 plan instead, I mean he convinced me that the cancellation fee was not worth it. I agreed. He said I woul not have to pay the $68.77 that I was usually pro rated every month. Great I thought. Well here I am crying on the phone out of frustration. They won't cancel my phone and are trying to tell me they will fix it and that It is not necessary because I still had to pay the first month beacuse the bill had been issued and ATT DOES NOT GIVE REFUNDS!!! I have been on the phone for an hour and twenty minutes. Then they said that my phone would have any downloads and special features blocked so that I would no longer incurr extra charges. Well they never did, I got charged the last two months.
The thing is I was told so many different and conflicting things to the effect that I eventually paid more than $230 to cancel. Things got worse as I was transfered up the latter. I just got off the phone they transfered me to a manager named Carl Blaine who was short and told me I would have to pay an additional months charges since I was trying to cancel after my new billing period kicked in!! And $175 cancellation fee. He said he could not do any thing further for me and that he had had enough, it has been almost two hours at this point. He said if I had any other questions because the "conversation was over",I said I wanted him to go and get the person who was below him who had just transfered me and get them to tell him how his total had been lower and clarify. He went around the bush and finaly said that their was a credit for $4 and that it would be deducted from my cancellation since I am pro rated. But all the money I paid since I first called and tried to cancel was out of his hands.
This is one of the worst customer service experiences of my life. I will never do business with ATT, nor will my bouyfriend, they also had a descrepency with his bill and never fixed it. So he never paid it. I am an idiot I will pay mine, but they should have just let me cancel back in January, that way I would still have $68.77, that I paid and they effectively allocated to all sorts of charges!!
